Richard Sr. & Martha Cox came to Auburn in 1951 from Mount
Vernon, Kentucky. They opened a store in the premises that was once owned by the
Woodmen of the World and is currently (November 2007) owned by Mike
Hughes . They later moved to the location in the old "Vick's Hotel" dining room,
which was where the business was carried on by their son Richard Jr. "Dickie"
Cox until his death in October 2007. |

and its uniqueness is as a result of its longevity in Auburn. Many stores have
come and gone but Cox Variety Store seemed to live on forever - well it lived as
long as Dickie Cox was alive. |
